I have made one Baby Sweater…..about 20 years ago and it was done in sections; fronts, back and 2 sleeves after which they had to be sewn together…..I hate sewing so thought it would be fun to try knitting one from the neck down.  I found the neatest book called the portable crafter by Leanne Bennett and had already made some baby hats from a pattern in the book and noticed a few for baby sweaters….and they are done in one piece….no sewing other than the little arm pits.  Ok I figgerd I needed to do a practice project so had some pretty rasberry worsted weight yarn and correct needle sizes…needed a size 6 in straigt and size 8 in circular.

Well the directions were pretty easy or so I thought….start with purl 1 knit 1 ribbing for 5 rows.  Row 6 was the problem…directions said to switch to bigger needles…got that part, next rib 4 [k1,p1,k1,p1] no problem then you knit and place a marker, knit some more and place a marker…ok got that part and odd rows are purled all the way across….then for row 8 the directions read work ribbing [k1p1] then do some increases around the markers…I got that part but the k1p1 rib had me stumped because looking at the picture in the book there was k1p1k1p1 ribbing on both sides of the sweater…so I ended up ripping and starting over about 5 times until I decided to just work the ribbing like I thought it should be worked…..so we will see what happens.

Anyway here is a what I have done so far…… hummm need to make that bigger…oh well that’s a job for tomorrow.
